Solar Energy Opportunity
As we push to find energy sources that pollute less than fossil fuels converting more solar power into electricity is high on the political agenda in many countries.
In the US, despite rapid growth, solar power accounts for less than 1 percent of electricity use. In Europe, the use of solar power is much greater due to strong incentives where Utility Businesses are required to buy solar power at fixed prices.
The drawback to solar power is that at night it produces no energy, but more importantly most electricity is needed in the daytime, when consumers turn on lights and televisions and air-conditioning. It is also expensive to produce as generating power from photovoltaic panels costs more than four times as much as coal, and more than twice what wind power costs.
